Offers free counselling on a walk-in basis by experienced, qualified counsellors using a solution-focused approach.
Sessions last for approximately one hour, during which time the counsellor, or counselling team, will be seeking to identify and reinforce the coping and daily living skills already possessed by the client.
Counsellors will then attempt to break down what may seem to the client like a large and complex problem into manageable parts and empower the client to address the issues they identify.
For some clients a single session may be all that is needed to motivate them into a better use of their own problem-solving skills. Others may be assisted to cope effectively with the period of waiting to the time of an appointment with another helping agency. Yet others may decide to return as a couple or family to receive additional support.
Another option is referral for longer term counselling, a self-help group, or specialized resources such as family physicians, mental health services, addictions resources, legal services, credit counselling, etc., as required.
